Terrestrial TV - a 1-million household platform
Four percent growth was registered in the total terrestrial usage last year - 1.14 million households in total - according to AGB Nielsen statistics. Very positive sign in connection with the digital switchover that the rejuvenation of the platform audience has already started: the digitalization changes the profile of the users; they are much more valuable targets for the advertisers. Another achievement is that a migration from other pay-tv platforms to MinDig TV has started.
Digital terrestrial television has been the fastest growing platform in the past year, there are more than 300,000 households using MinDig TV, the free-to-air digital service. One of the major highlights of the summer period will be the major sport events (Formula-1, Football European Championship and Summer Olympic Games) broadcasted on public service channels are going to be available in HD-quality, without paying a subscription fee on MinDig TV. Due to our strong ATL & BTL communication campaigns, the brand awareness is constantly growing. Almost all of new flat-screen television sets (plasma, LCD, LED) now come with a DVB-T MPEG-4 tuner and thus no stand-alone decoder has to be purchased for watching for example the free HD quality sport events.
MinDig TV Extra achieved the highest growth in the wireless segment in the past 12 months resulting more than 63,000 subscribers by now. Comparing the MinDig TV Extra's Basic package with the other wireless television service providers basic packages, it can be stated, that MinDig TV Extra is the best price/value ratio offer on the market: contains the most viewed channels, the widest thematic for a bargain price, uniquely offering a kids channel, blue-chip infotainment and 3 programs in HD quality.
Significant network expansion in summer
Antenna Hungária executes significant DVB-T network expansion in the coming months by launching further 5 mid-power and 10 low-power sites. The focus is on the biggest cities: resulting that the service covering the whole country can be reached even by indoor or outdoor portable reception in 47 cities from the 50 biggest Hungarian cities (Multiplex A & C). As a result of the network expansion, there will be 65 operating DVB-T sites; the MinDig TV service will cover more than 98% of the population. Multiplex B (MinDig TV Extra Family package) coverage will grow up to around 87%; the digital signal will be transmitted from 53 sites.
Further plans: 3D test transmission, launch of multimedia business
Regarding the analogue switch-off, the deadline of the process was delayed to end of 2014, but clarifications are needed in the coming weeks. The stakeholders are facing with significant planning uncertainties as no switch-off strategy has been disclosed yet.
Our plan is to extend MinDig TV free-to-air HD broadcast with a 3D test transmission of the summer's major sport events in cooperation with MTVA in and around Budapest. We plan with further DVB-T network enhancement in the course of autumn. Regarding the MinDig TV Extra service, we would like to double the subscribers' base until the end of March 2013, executing new retail partnerships and to increase further the network coverage of the Family package.
As a growing number of people would prefer to consume TV when they want and the way they like, AH should cope with this and to extend its service portfolio with non-linear services too. The first step forward the multimedia business will be the launch of our Content Delivery Network service in the coming weeks, there are ongoing negotiations with broadcasters to offer streaming services to various devices - PC's, smartphones, tablets, etc. - including in HD quality.
